Materials Needed:

  • 12 Flat wooden discs, approximately two inches in diameter
  • 1 Sheet of striped scrapbook paper
  • 1 Rubber stamp, in the pattern of your choosing
  • 1 Bottle of brown acrylic paint
  • Mod Podge (suggested, but not required)
  • Tacky Glue
  • Twine (or thin leather for an even more rustic look)

The Process:

1. With the craft paper, cut out 12 circles to use on one side of your ornaments by tracing the wooden disc for size.

2. Paint one side of each disc with a thin layer of adhesive.

3. Gently place one of the paper circles onto the disc, smoothing out the paper to get rid of any bubbles.

4. Once the paper is smoothly applied, apply another thin layer of adhesive on top to seal it. Let dry according to time suggestions on bottle, usually 1-2 hours.

5. Repeat for all wooden discs.

6. Once all the discs are dry to the touch, flip them over so that the plain wooden side is showing.

7. Using a brush, put a thin layer of paint onto your stamp and press it on to the disc. Repeat until the disc is fully covered in the stamp, adding more paint to the stamp as needed.

8. Allow the paint to dry and apply a thin layer of adhesive on top to seal in the paint and avoid chipping.

9. Repeat for all wooden discs and let dry for 1-2 hours.

10. Using the stripes as guides, place a drop of glue halfway down the circle on both sides and attach a piece of twine to serve as the “handle” on the ornament. The length of twine needed will vary based on how low you want the ornaments to hang. We used five inches of twine per ornament.

11. Lay the ornaments flat to dry. Once the glue is dry, they are ready to hang!

Straws aren’t just for sipping, as you’ll see in this DIY for creating your own arrow ornaments in minutes.

  • 12 Paper straws (we used these )
  • Arrow Template
  • 3 Sheets of glitter scrapbook paper
  • Glue
  • Ribbon
  • Scissors
  • Writing utensil
  • Paper Clips

The Process:
1. Start by printing the template for the heads and fletches of each ornament. Trace the template onto your glitter paper using a dark writing utensil. You’ll need two of each per ornament, or 24 of each to make 12 ornaments.

2. Glue the arrowheads together, glitter side out, and include one end of the straw. You may need to flatten the tip of the straw to help the arrowheads stick together.

3. Put a paper clip on glued arrowheads to hold then together as they dry.

4. On the other end of the straw, glue to the two fletches together, glitter side out, and include both the end of the straw and a folded ribbon to use for hanging the ornament.

5. Place a paper clip on the end of the arrow to hold together the paper, straw, and ribbon.

6. Allow the ornaments to dry overnight before removing the paper clips and hanging them on the tree!
